The Boat You Rocked

The Boat You Rocked
(S. Telford)

The roof and the rain
Are kissing tonight
Teasing each other
And holding on tight.
The words that they whisper
The secrets they tell
Sound so familiar
I know them all well

I used to be the boat you rocked
But that storm died, the weather stopped
And I'm not sure of what I've got
Now I'm not the boat that you rock

The wind and the walls
In a tight embrace
Squeezing each other
With amazing grace.
The language they're speaking
The songs they recite
Sound so familiar
And haunting tonight

I used to be the boat you rocked
But that storm died, the weather stopped
And I'm not sure of what I've got
Now I'm not the boat that you rock

The sun and the snow
An unusual pair
When you see one
The other's not there.
I long to feel your rain on me
Just feel your wind again on me

I used to be the boat you rocked
But that storm died, the weather stopped
And I'm not sure of what I've got
Now I'm not the boat you that rock

This Ain't A Song For You

This Ain't A Song For You
(S. Telford)

I thought I couldn't handle
Another break up scandal
Didn't wanna be the talk of the town
But I've heard those tongues waggin'
Spittin' fire like a dragon
But I haven't let it get me down at all.

I almost didn't wake up
'Cause I thought that the break up
Was gonna hurt more than it did
But I've gotta tell you this

To whom it don't concern
This ain't a song for you
I haven't shed a tear
And I'm not planning to
I'm stronger than I reckoned
I haven't spent a second
Wondering what I'm gonna do
No this ain't a song for you

I thought that I was weaker
And it would cut me deeper
Didn't think there was a you without me
But I've heard you're doing fine
And having a real good time
No you haven't let it get you down at all

I almost didn't wake up
'Cause I thought that the break up
Was gonna hurt more than it did
But I've gotta tell you this

To whom it don't concern
This ain't a song for you
I haven't shed a tear
And I'm not planning to
I'm stronger than I reckoned
I haven't spent a second
Wondering what I'm gonna do
No this ain't a song for you

Now there's nothing more left for us
So your name ain't in the chorus
And I hope you're okay with that
I know I'm okay with that

To whom it don't concern
This ain't a song for you
I haven't shed a tear
And I'm not planning to
I'm stronger than I reckoned
I haven't spent a second
Wondering what I'm gonna do
No this ain't a song for you

Bottle Or A Bullet

Bottle Or A Bullet
(S. Telford)

You say the nicest things in every card you send
Like you want to love me until our lives both end
And the poetry you write gets me every time
You've got a way words when drink ain't on your mind.

Is that a bottle or a bullet?
'cause you're really killing me
I'm not sure I wanna hear
Your beer soaked honesty.
Your voice may be slurred
But I hear every word
And I'm not gonna lie, they hurt.

You don't have a problem, that's all you ever say
In between the venom you keep throwing my way
And the poetry you write doesn't comfort me at all
You don't have a way with words when whiskey takes control

Is that a bottle or a bullet?
'cause you're really killing me
I'm not sure I wanna hear
Your beer soaked honesty.
Your voice may be slurred
But I hear every word
And I'm not gonna lie, they hurt.

Tomorrow when your head is sore
You'll say nice things just like before
But I can't take this any more.

Is that a bottle or a bullet?
'cause you're really killing me
I'm not sure I wanna hear
Your beer soaked honesty.
Your voice may be slurred
But I hear every word
And I'm not gonna lie, they hurt.

Hollywood Or Home

Hollywood Or Home
(S. Telford)

She was daddy's little dreamer
From the second she could talk
And her daddy was a believer
She'd have her own star on that walk.
But she's been working tables
Just trying to pay the bills
 She couldn't be much further
From those famous lettered hills.

This wasn't how she planned it
And she can't understand it
Should she pack her bags
Or go it alone?
It's Hollywood or home.

She's still momma's little angel
They talk at least twice a day
But she hasn't told her momma
She's got too many bills to pay.
'Cause she's been working tables
And it barely covers rent
She couldn't fall much further
Yeah she doesn't have a cent

This wasn't how she planned it
And she can't understand it
Should she pack her bags
Or go it alone?
It's Hollywood or home.

Sometimes she misses Tennessee
And some things just weren't meant to be
She's looking for a flight
To take her home tonight

This wasn't how she planned it
And she can't understand it
Should she pack her bags
Or go it alone?
It's Hollywood or home.

I Am Not My Age

I Am Not My Age
(S. Telford)

This face in the mirror so weary and so wise
With experience came those bags under my eyes
Funny, when you're growing, how time suddenly flies
Funny, without slowing, your life is passing by.

These hands that you're holding so battered and so bruised
Experience taught me just how to sing the blues
Funny, when you're crying, how salt can taste so sweet
Funny, I'm not lying or admitting defeat

Another chapter ending,
It's time to turn the page
I need to stop pretending
That I am not my age.
My heart will soon be mending
The world is still my stage
'Cause I have stopped pretending
That I am not my age.

This hair that I'm brushing, I'm sure it's gray somewhere
With experience comes the guts to just not care
Funny how I spent my life, aiming for the best
Funny how that all has changed, I've given it a rest

Another chapter ending,
It's time to turn the page
I need to stop pretending
That I am not my age.
My heart will soon be mending
The world is still my stage
'Cause I have stopped pretending
That I am not my age.

Twenty one or fifty three,
Age is just a word to me.
Like a good bottle of wine
I get better over time

Another chapter ending,
It's time to turn the page
I need to stop pretending
That I am not my age.
My heart will soon be mending
The world is still my stage
'Cause I have stopped pretending
That I am not my age

My Garden Won't Grow Roses

 My Garden Won't Grow Roses
 (S. Telford)

I haven't seen a summer since you took your warmth away
Every August may as well be a December day
I miss the heat I used to feel just lying on your skin
But Winter's taking over me and keeping the cold in

I never see the sunshine setting like I used to years ago
And it's hard to hear my heartbeat when it's buried under snow
My garden won't grow roses in this freezing temperature
And I won't ever love again, believe me babe I'm sure.

I haven't seen a summer since I heard the word goodbye
The cloud that's hanging over me is all that's in the sky
I miss the light I used to see reflecting off your skin
But winter's taking over me and keeping the dark in

I never see the sunshine setting like I used to years ago
And it's hard to hear my heartbeat when it's buried under snow
My garden won't grow roses in this freezing temperature
And I won't ever love again, believe me babe I'm sure.

I never thought my world would end without you by my side
But I learnt it the hard way when all my roses died

I never see the sunshine setting like I used to years ago
And it's hard to hear my heartbeat when it's buried under snow
My garden won't grow roses in this freezing temperature
And I won't ever love again, believe me babe I'm sure.
